Overview

Responsibilities

Purpose of the job:

We are an enthusiastic, diverse group of engineers and software developers; responsible for building, deploying, maintaining and improving bespoke software to support the Crown can manufacturing business.

The scope of work is growing, and as a result, we need more people to support the system, in collaboration with the factories, corporate team, commissioning engineers, suppliers etc.

Key Responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Responsible for the deployment of Crown in-house built Manufacturing Execution System to Crown factories globally, from surveying the factory and building a scope of work, to identify missing data / hardware, to coding of the PLCs, right through to the configuration of the website, and validating the data.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of the system – working with factories across the world to fault find issues with the data, whether it’s a faulty sensor, or a typo in the website configuration.
  • Responsible for the continuous improvement of the system – working with the factories to identify improvement opportunities for the system, researching possible solutions, and working with the software developers to implement them.
  • Responsible for working with the plants and other teams to use the data to generate conclusions and create actionable insights.

  • Degree level or an equivalent higher level qualification in electrical and control engineering or closely related discipline is preferred. 
  • Qualifications will be considered in conjunction with relevant knowledge and experience.

Previous experience

  • Minimum 2 years proven ability in the automation / MES / SCADA systems for machines in factories

Skills and competencies

  • Knowledge of MES systems – how the data will flow from the PLC to the website
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC programming – editing PLC programs to gather data from the machines
  • Knowledge of networking - how the data flows from the PLC, through switches, to be stored on a server database (SQL).
  • Understanding of factories and general factory equipment automation and instrumentation – sensors, meters, motors etc.
  • Project management experience – interacting with multiple parties (plant, IT, corporate, commissioning engineers, continuous improvement teams, suppliers etc.), keeping stakeholders informed, developing schedules.
  • Knowledge of data analytics – how to present data to that it is useful to the user (e.g. Microsoft Excel, PowerBI).
  • Experience of the design process from specification through to implementation and final validation
  • Knowledge communication protocols – how to gather data from different systems (PLCs, IoT sensors, etc.) using different methods of communication protocol (Modbus, OPC UA etc.)
