Overview
- Reporting to the Director - Metals Sourcing, the Manager - Steel Sourcing develops and executes procurement strategies focusing on the acquisition of tinplated and non-tinplated cold-rolled steel (direct material) for >10 U.S. based metal packaging manufacturing operations.
- The Manager coordinates the supply of >250,000 tons of steel annually with ~ 150 specifications, optimizing > 15 global vendor relationships via assertive negotiations and constant effective communication, and ensures alignment with the company’s quality, service, and financial goals at overall cost optimization.
- Acting as a key liaison among two business units and multiple global suppliers, the Manager ensures continuity of supply and operations, standardizes procurement practices, drives cost savings, reduces supply vulnerability, strengthens supplier relationships, and ensures contract compliance.
- The role requires close collaboration with internal stakeholders to deliver operational efficiencies, cost savings, new qualifications, and strategic procurement solutions given long lead times and evolving market dynamics.
- Demonstrated abilities to analyze situations and execute solutions, lead, self-initiate, drive results, motivate team members, and make sound business decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage centralized sourcing strategies to ensure competitive pricing and Terms and Conditions, optimal supply, and alignment with business units’ priorities.
- Participate in and support annual contract negotiations for steel supply and scrap management.
- In close collaboration with production planning departments, execute the steel procurement strategy daily to ensure continuity of supply / operations, contract compliance, optimal working capital and inventory levels, and adherence to quality standards, while adapting to the changing trade landscape.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers, while troubleshooting supply issues and driving continuous improvement.
- Lead cross-functional improvement initiatives, including product-mix procurement synergies, introduction of new vendor suppliers via qualifications, and supply vulnerability reduction.
- Collaborate with finance and accounting teams on procurement processes and financial reporting, also providing administrative support.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in economics / business administration, engineering or a related field required. Master’s Degree a plus.
- 5+ years’ experience in the management of direct or indirect sourcing categories. Experience in manufacturing.
- Strong category management skills, which include analysing business requirements, data gathering, drawing and implementation of a category strategy, RFQ creation, identification of suppliers & service providers, evaluation & selection of bidders, negotiations of Terms and Conditions and conclusion.
- Strategic and analytical skills and the ability to analyze and benchmark large and complicated amounts of data.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office, mainly Excel. Knowledge of PowerBI is preferred.
- Travel requirements approx. 10-20%
