Position Overview, Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Senior Vice President, Global Procurement, the Director of Transport & Warehousing NA will assume a leadership role with expert-level accountabilities for organizing the transport and warehousing of our manufactured goods to our suppliers. This includes 200,000+ FTL shipments in the U.S. and Canada with multiple carriers via a 3PL and over 30 external warehouses. 

More specifically, the Director of Transport and Warehousing, North America will be responsible for the following:

  • Forms strategies for the shipment of our goods to properly balance cost and service goals, to stay at/below market

  • Leading third-party logistics services E2Open which provides people and system support, group of 15

  • Creates strong partnerships with Crown stakeholders within our network of over 40 plants

  • Develops bid strategies using strong understanding of internal and external transport market factors

  • Sources, negotiates and manages all carrier agreements (>100) and warehouse vendors (>30), including responsibility for performance, develops strategic partnerships

  • Improves service levels to customers to meet best-in-class standards, on-time pickup, delivery

  • Partners with business stakeholders to define warehousing strategy and network design

  • Responsible for sourcing external warehousing, ensures cost and space meet business needs

  • Purchasing and rebalancing returnable packaging moving throughout network

  • Leads import/export functions as well as customs compliance, ensures alignment to Federal regulations

  • Assessing and improving the current organizational structure, skills and capabilities

  • Implements best practices, subject matter expert, stays current with industry trends

  • Development of annual Transport & Warehousing budget and quarterly forecast updates for each business unit

  • Direct management responsibility for staff of five logistics professionals


Job Requirements:

The successful candidate will have 15-20 years of industry experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics/Supply Chain, Business or other relevant fields of study.  A master’s degree is preferred. This Executive must be high energy and able to motivate employees at all levels, challenge conventional thinking and drive projects that result in measurable improvement in the desired metrics.

The leader will have superior people skills and have a history of developing talent within the organization.

Their background will show steady career progression in sourcing transport FTL withing a Manufacturing environment. 

In addition, the successful candidate should have demonstrated experience in the following areas:

  • Logistics and operations leadership in a high volume, global, multi-site manufacturing organization
  • Development and implementation of strategies to improve efficiency and financial performance
  • Knowledge of computer-based systems in the Logistics area including: TMS, freight payment, yard mgmt.
  • Initiative to identify, pursue, and collect cost reductions and improved services from suppliers.
  • High ethical standards demonstrated by the individual’s approach to business and the ability to set the tone for the entire organization.
  • Sound financial judgement and the ability to understand and effectively manage issues that impact the company’s financial performance
  • Strong orientation to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers
  • Experience with E2Open TMS and/or LaaS services.

Position on-site at Crown’s Tampa Headquarters (hybrid not available)
