Overview

Division overview:

Crown’s Closures, Aerosol & Promotional Packaging (CAPP) Division manufactures a variety of packaging solutions for the largest consumer packaging companies in North America.  Our distinguished list of clients including SC Johnson, WD40, Barbasol, Abbott Laboratories and Unilever. We manufacture total packaging solutions including:

  • Closures: We manufacture a variety of decorative food and metal vacuum sealed closures, metal and composite closures, capping systems for glass and plastic container manufacturers.
  • Aerosol Packaging: We manufacture cans and ends for manufacturers of personal care, food, household and industrial products.  We offer our customers a broad range of products including multiple sizes, color schemes and shaped packaging.
  • Promotional and Specialty Packaging: We manufacture a wide array of decorative containers with numerous lid and closure variations.

Position overview:

The Down the Line Mechanic will trouble-shoot, set up, operate, repair, maintain and overhaul equipment in accordance with the manufacture of 3-piece steel cans.

Location:

This fast-paced manufacturing facility making over 13 million cans a month is located in Spartanburg, SC.


Duties And Responsibilities:

Responsibilities would include, but not be limited to the following:

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot all production line equipment associated with the process to prevent

and/or correct mechanical and electrical breakdowns.

  • Repair or replace broken or malfunctioning components
  • Adjust and calibrate equipment and machinery to optimal specifications
  • Check the performance of machinery. Clean and lubricate equipment or machinery.
  • Assess previous day mechanical downtime that require attention.
  • Work in conjunction with Supervisors/Managers to perform Preventative Maintenance on any production line that production control dictates.
  • Must provide personal tools and toolbox.
  • Perform accurate quality checks on finished goods.
  • Ensure all safety equipment, guards, and devices are in place at all times, and follow safe work procedures and safety rules.
  • Follow company policies and standard operating procedures.
  • Understand and follow verbal instructions to completion of assigned tasks.
  • Maintain proper housekeeping and safety - keep work area clean.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications:

In addition to the specific responsibilities listed above, the ideal candidate will possess the following:

Minimum Requirements:

  • 3-5+ years working experience in operating, maintaining and troubleshooting line production in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must successfully pass Ramsay Combined Basic Reading and Math Assessments as well as Mechanical Aptitude Assessment to determine mechanical and technical aptitude.
  • Experience with hydraulics, centrifugal pumps, machinery alignment, proper handling of bearings and gears, chain drives and power transmission.
  • Effective and proven communication skills working in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced work environment, both as an independent contributor and as a team player
  • Ability to drive forklifts, aerial lifts and work at high working levels.
  • Safety & Quality minded with willingness for excellence required in all aspects of the job.
  • Must demonstrate qualifications through hands-on execution, simulation and/or discussion of mechanical and technical skills.
  • Must be able to work any shift, evenings, weekends, and overtime as business needs dictate.

Preferred Requirements:

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Associates/technical degree or a related vocational/technical certification (journeyman card, technical license, etc.). 
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical blueprints and parts specifications.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage multiple projects/tasks at the same time. 

Competencies:

  • Intermediate mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and power transmission knowledge/experience.
  • High competency in the use of micrometers, calipers and related equipment.
  • Basic reading and mathematical skills.
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.

General Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 45-55 pounds occasionally.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.   
  • Manual dexterity/fine motor skills.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position includes close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • The associate may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures. 
  • The noise level is not excessively loud.
