Responsibilities

Position Overview:

To safely operate the palletizing machinery ensuring that only quality finished cans are properly loaded and packaged on pallets for shipment to the customer.

Duties And Responsibilities:

Reporting directly to the Team Leader, the Palletizer Operator responsibilities would include, but not be limited to, the following:   

  • Manages machinery set-up and adjustment and inspects products to ensure compliance to standards
  • Operate the controls of the palletizing machine so that the proper configuration of cans, slip sheets and top frames are loaded onto each pallet, making sure each pallet has the proper pallet ticket attached.
  • Stand up tipped cans, replace voids and remove jams to maintain standard production.
  • Visually examine cans for defects and discard as appropriate.  Monitor larger patterns to see if pallet is properly packed and replace missing cans.
  • Visually examine pallets, top frames and slip-sheets and remove if defective.
  • Check drops and conveyor system when flow is stopped and clear minor jams as necessary.
  • Report equipment malfunctions or can quality issues to the Team Leader or Back End Maintainer.
  • Maintain cleanliness of work area and follow safe working procedures.  Report unsafe conditions immediately to the Team Leader.
  • Maintain proper production ticket printing records.
  • Complete all required process control checks as specified.
  • Maintain a safety awareness attitude in daily performance of their assigned task and to be alert to the safety of fellow employees.  Items include, but not limited to maintaining proper utilization of all required personal protective equipment, comply with lock out/tag out, etc
  • Change out a roll of strapping when coil runs out
  • Operate and clear jams on the strappers
  • Operate all controls and switches on lower conveying
  • Troubleshoot and correct problems in the palletizing process         
  • Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • Able to read and understand date codes and pallet tickets, know how to operate computer to generate pallet tickets and the procedures for application.
  • Ability to learn and understand overall can quality requirements and be capable for identifying defects.
  • Ability to learn quality requirements of packaging.
  • Ability to learn basics of the can-making process.
  • Basic data entry skills.
