Responsibilities

Position Overview:

Ensure that all back end equipment from the end of the washer/dryer through the pallet staging area is maintained and operating to produce cans which meet quality specifications.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Perform set-up, maintenance, and ensure efficient operation of flangers, beaders, light testers, lacquer spray machines, IBOs, palletizers, and strappers.
  • Maintain and set-up back-end conveying systems, including single filers and can transfer apparatus.
  • Conduct scheduled inspections and document the following can specifications in the system: flanged can height, factory finished can height, flange width and angle, axial load and panel resistance, bead depth, rolling bead diameter, and placement, plug diameter, and oven temperature checks.
  • Perform visual checks to ensure compliance with standards and taking corrective action with problems are found.
  • Complete necessary paperwork and documentation, including process check sheets, logbooks, and maintenance records.
  • Conduct equipment set-up evaluations (ESE) and make proper adjustments as needed.
  • Assist in other areas of the plant to maintain smooth can flow.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all work areas and follow proper safety procedures and work practices.
  • Perform other job-related tasks as required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced mechanical skills (including working knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics) and ability to use precision measuring devices (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Ability to understand the manufacturing process of cans and ends, in addition to the equipment, and quality specifications.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong mechanical aptitude on all can and end making equipment in the plant, depending on the primary area of responsibility assigned.
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, gauges, tools and equipment.
  • Ability to safely operate production forklift.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong understanding of applicable safety regulations, reinforcing a culture where safety is the top priority.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly with all team members.

  • Strong problem-solving skills through an individual and/or collaborative approach
  • Ability to work independently or with a team
  • Must be able to look at new solutions and “think outside the box”

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands and arms, and may be required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  
  • The Team Member may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions:

  • Generally, working in a plant environment, but may be required to perform some job duties inside a typical office setting.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicular traffic.  
  • The Team Member may be exposed to a wide range of temperatures.
  • The noise level is frequently loud.
